OnePlus One Android update with Cyanogen OS 12 and Oxygen OS is out
On April 14,
Cyanogen released the eagerly-anticipated Cyanogen OS 12, and immediately began
rolling it out to the OnePlus One. You should receive the update OTA soon, but
if you're feeling impatient then you can download it and install it yourself
here.
Cyanogen OS
12 is based on Lollipop, but has its own (highly customizable) UI and unique
features such as PIN scramble (randomizing the PIN behind the numbers on the
screen every time), sound-tweaking app AudioFX, and a whole bunch of themes.
OnePlus officially
released OxygenOS on April 3. You can download it and find out more info at
OnePlus' official OxygenOS page. OxygenOS is essentially a stock version of
Android 5.0 Lollipop with a few extra tweaks, such as OnePlus' own gesture
controls, some wallpapers, and added customizability to the Quick Settings
menu. For now, the only way to get OxygenOS is by manually installing it as no
OTA roll-out is currently planned.
With OnePlus
now being opened up to two Lollipop variants, it'll be interesting to see what
each one does to distinguish itself from the other, and whether one will become
a favorite among users in time for the OnePlus Two release.
